Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $318,000)

This project will examine current and emerging approaches to data-driven, community-informed violence reduction policing strategies within the context of the reality of reimagining policing in the United States. 

 

Goals:

Enhance the capacity of law enforcement to use data and analytics in day-to-day crimefighting as the country struggles with reimagining policing in the midst of a pandemic
Improve law enforcement’s ability to use research findings to inform decision-making balancing data science, human intelligence and community input
Increase BJA staff’s understanding of new and emerging innovations in law enforcement while promoting knowledge exchange and transparency of operations. 

Objectives / Deliverables:

Assess the current state of data-driven policing capability in the US
Work with SME’s and BJA to build capability in developing new strategies
Work with BJA staff on policy issues related to the use of data and evidence
Write policy papers and research briefs related to practice in the field
Disseminate findings through knowledge exchanges across the country
