Recognizing Bravery & Sacrifice

Description

To help recognize the courage and disregard for personal safety that law enforcement and other first responders have when faced with dangerous situations, the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) oversees the Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery and the Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor. Additionally, through the Public Safety Officers' Benefits Program, BJA provides benefits to first responders and their families. Learn more about these programs:

The Law Enforcement Congressional Badge of Bravery (CBOB) honors acts of bravery performed by federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement officers.

The Public Safety Officer Medal of Valor (MOV) recognizes the extraordinary acts of heroism and bravery on the part of our nation's public safety officers.

The Public Safety Officers’ Benefits (PSOB) Program provides death benefits to the survivors of law enforcement officers, firefighters, and other first responders whose death (or catastrophic injury) was the direct and proximate result of an injury sustained in the line of duty.
