The Hillsboro Police Department seeks to expand the existing BWC program by implementing an additional 25 cameras assigned to detectives and lieutenants. Expanding the BWC program aligns with the police department's mission statement of delivering exceptional police service to the Hillsboro community through our shared values of dignity, respect, service, and just outcomes. Expanding the BWC program will exemplify the department's core values by preserving the good work of the Hillsboro Police Department as officers treat community members with dignity and respect, provide unwavering service while considering the good of all and not simply the majority, and being neutral and transparent in decision making and working from trustworthy motives.
The foremost goal of expanding the Hillsboro Police Department's BWC program is to focus on
implementing BWC technology to a greater number of officers to improve accountability and
transparency. Additionally, expansion will enhance the safety and welfare of Hillsboro police officers and the citizens of Hillsboro and continue to provide and expand on the effectiveness and efficiency of the judicial process through video and audio documentation of the actions of officers, citizens, witnesses, and offenders. Expected outcomes for expansion of the BWC program are the purchase and implementation of additional cameras and associated equipment, establishing a working relationship with the TTA provider as provided by DOJ, scheduling and conducting established BWC training for detectives and lieutenants, and continuing to demonstrate a commitment to incorporating the evidentiary value of BWCs and digital evidence into daily administrative and field operations. The expansion of the BWC program will benefit the department, community members, and specifically the detectives and lieutenants who will be receiving the cameras.
