Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2008, $1,964,730)

The Edward Byrne Memorial Discretionary Grants Program (Byrne Discretionary Program) helps local communities improve the capacity of local justice systems and provides for national support efforts. This project is authorized and funded through a line item in the FY 08 Congressional Budget. Funds should be used for purposes recommended by Congress.

The Mountain Top Technologies Inc. will improve the ability of law enforcement agencies in Allegheny, Armstrong, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Somerset, Washington, and Westmoreland counties to fight crime. They will improve the capacity of the criminal justice system to effectively plan, manage, and allocate resources, encourage information sharing to reduce the incidence of crime and drug abuse, provide responsive law enforcement, and increase officer training. The Mountain Top Technologies will help purchase equipment, training, and supplies that otherwise would not be attainable. This includes but is not limited to, protective vests, vehicles, computers, radios, police kits (i.e. fingerprinting, drug testing, and breathalyzers) uniforms, communication infrastructure, firearms, and related supplies.
