Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2010, $492,000)

The Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification (SAVIN) program ensures victims of crime receive accurate and timely information regarding the status of offenders and events related to their cases. Through SAVIN, victims are able to participate in the judicial process and make sound decisions to protect themselves from further victimization while maintaining total anonymity. This information-sharing capability is also available to courts, corrections, and law enforcement officials.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections will use their 2010 SAVIN Enhancement Grant to update VINELink, by adding a photograph of each offender in the victim's search. One of the most significant challenges facing crime victims in Mississippi is the inability to make a positive identification when searching for an offender. VINELink, the public web portal Mississippi crime victims use to search for offenders presently, does not provide a photograph of each offender with the search return information. CA/NCF
