Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2016, $65,926)
The state of Alaska will utilize funds to support programs and activities designed to implement the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA) portion of the Adam Walsh Act (42 U.S.C. § 16901, et seq.). The Adam Walsh Act is designed to protect children and adults from sexual exploitation and violent crime, prevent child abuse and child pornography, promote internet safety, and honor the memory of Adam Walsh and other crime victims. SORNA was enacted to protect the public from convicted sex offenders by establishing a comprehensive national system for the registration and notification of those offenders. The goal of the state is to continue to enhance the existing imaging and indexing of sex offender registries in Alaska and other jurisdictions by hiring personnel to digitize sex offender registration and court case documents, for storage in an electronic database, to bring the state closer to substantially implementing SORNA.
