Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2019, $6,000,000)

The Emergency Federal Law Enforcement Assistance (EFLEA) Program is by invitation only and provided to mitigate the effects of emergency situations in the affected state and local jurisdictions. The state must reimburse these jurisdictions in a manner proportionate to the incident and the areas affected. Administrative funds may not be deducted from this award. No funds provided under this chapter may be used to supplant State or local funds that would otherwise be made available for such purposes.

The Alaska Department of Public Safety (DPS) proposes to use this funding to address the high rates of domestic violence, sexual assault, and other violent crimes in the state by subgranting funds to Alaska Native organizations and villages to address critical public safety infrastructure needs in rural Alaska to support law enforcement services within communities.
