PREA Targeted Implementation Planning and Support Program
The PREA Targeted Implementation Planning and Support (PREA TIPS) Program opportunity from Impact Justice, the non-profit that runs the PREA Resource Center, is for locally operated small and medium jails, juvenile facilities, community confinement facilities, lockups, and tribal facilities to receive federal funds to assist in PREA implementation. Application deadline extended to September 13, 2019.

Implementing the PREA Standards, Protecting Inmates, and Safeguarding Communities
Through the FY 2019 Implementing the PREA Standards, Protecting Inmates, and Safeguarding Communities opportunity, BJA is seeking applications for funding of projects designed to prevent, detect, and respond to sexual abuse and sexual harassment in confinement facilities, and to achieve and maintain compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards. Apply by: May 22, 2019.

PREA Funding Opportunity Now Available
BJA has released the PREA Program: Strategic Support for PREA Implementation in Local Confinement Facilities Nationwide FY 2017 Competitive Grant Announcement. This program supports data-driven, innovative practices that promote sexual safety and compliance with the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards in confinement facilities. Apply by: May 25, 2017.

PREA State Compliance
As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA), the Department of Justice (DOJ) is making publicly available the lists of states and territories that submitted certifications and assurances, and those that will be subject to a 5 percent reduction in certain DOJ grant funds. Allegations of Sexual Victimization in Prisons and Jails Rose From 2009 to 2011; Substantiated Incidents Remained Stable
Correctional administrators reported 8,763 allegations of sexual victimization in prisons, jails and other adult correctional facilities in 2011, a statistically significant increase over the number of allegations reported in 2009 (7,855) and 2010 (8,404), the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) announced today.
