Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI)
Information related to: Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI)
The SAKI TTA program, led by RTI International and in partnership with a team of subject matter experts, offers expertise and assistance to jurisdictions as they establish widespread, evidence-based, sustainable practices for collecting and processing forensic evidence, investigating and prosecuting sexual assault cases resulting from evidence from previously unsubmitted sexual assault kits, and supporting survivors of sexual assault.
The goals of NIJ's DNA Capacity Enhancement and Backlog Reduction Program are to assist eligible states and units of local government to process, record, screen and analyze forensic DNA and/or DNA database samples; and, increase the capacity of public forensic DNA and DNA database laboratories to process more DNA samples, thereby helping to reduce the number of forensic DNA and DNA database samples awaiting analysis.
