The Idaho Forensic Justice Project (IDFJP) at Boise State University has partnered
with Innocence Organizations in Montana, Minnesota, Michigan, Georgia and Maryland
to provide DNA expertise, probabilistic genotyping review, expert affidavits, and DNA testing at
accredited laboratories. The proposal builds on a successful program that has
helped in over three-dozen exonerations nationwide, and helped police identify
DNA leads that have led to arrests in 4 of those exonerations. The collaboration
addresses major technical challenges for innocence organizations, including the lack
of scientific expertise, the inability to assess or even open DNA data files from cases
under review, and a need for open discussions with DNA experts during case
investigations. Over two years, the proposed activities are expected to review at
least 200 cases from the participating states.
