Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $418,010)
This project, "New Jersey Department of Corrections: Cutting the Cord on Cellphones," will compare two solutions to cellphone detection technology. The first solution is to set up a mobile managed access system in temporary, 24-hour operations at four different facilities. The second solution uses technology to detect if cellphones were active in a specific area based on their Mobile Advertisement Identification (MAID) number and uses handheld detection equipment, PocketHound, to detect nearby cellphones. Additionally, NJDOC will also use grant funds to provide two custom trainings: first, training staff on search methods specific to detecting contraband cellphones and the second on roving patrols and what to look for when scanning the ground for contraband.
