Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $75,107)

The Winnebago County Juvenile Detention Center's "Achieve Compliance of PREA Standards and Prevent Abuse" project will improve safety measures in its secure facility, through three key components. (1) Inspection and audit of current policies, procedures and operations to determine level of compliance and gaps in standards, which will be conducted by certified PREA auditor. (2) Implementation of information, training and resources found insufficient during the audit, through the development of educational materials, to ensure knowledge of zero-tolerance abuse policy. Additionally, a PREA Coordinator will be employed to ensure staff and inmates follow PREA standards, procedures, policies and protocols at all times. (3) Installation of safety equipment required to achieve full compliance, such as shower doors and screens and video cameras in current blind spot areas. Additional signage will also be created and installed, consistent with the PREA standards.
