Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $250,000)
“The Muscogee Sheriff’s Office, in Muscogee County Georgia is seeking a grant award that will not only continue to keep the Muscogee County Jail in compliance with PREA standards, but will greatly enhance the safety and security of both inmates, staff, and visitors. This project addresses a security need in that the current locks in the jail are easy to manipulate by the inmates. Inmates are able to pop open the locks and leave their cells. This is a serious security concern, not just for inmates, but staff as well. The agency proposes to purchase the locks for floors 3 South, 4 South, HD 3-13 cells, FMD and DMH cells, the clinic 1,2,3,4, along with the medical ward known as WD of the detention facility, where the most frequent and dangerous breach of the locks are occurring. Replacing cell locks that are at the end of life, with new functioning locks will prevent inmates from maneuvering them open, to engage in any form of assault, i.e., sexual and/or physical that would not be in compliance with PREA standards. Staff will also participate in PREA-related trainings and workshops.
