Support for one full-time DNA scientist and overtime and training for additional DNA scientists to reduce the current DNA case backlog and build capacity for new case requests.

The City of Scottsdale moto is “Simply Better Service for a World Class Community”. The Police Department’s Crime Lab is no exception. One example of the Crime Lab carrying this moto forward, is the practice of analyzing DNA from all person and property crimes, not solely person crimes. New Arizona laws, as well as increased sample requests for crimes against person’s, has increased the number of requests for DNA significantly creating a backlog of samples to be tested. Requested grant funds will allow the Department to continue to fund a Forensic Scientist in the DNA Unit to process backlogged DNA cases, as well as new cases submitted, and purchase a large capacity freezer to increase overall laboratory efficiency and increase capacity.
