Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $1,223,526)
The Oregon State Police (OSP) Forensic Services Division (FSD) provides scientific, technical and investigative support to the criminal justice system through the forensic analysis of evidence. The Division, accredited by ANAB to ISO:IEC 17025:2017 and ANAB-Forensic Testing and Calibration Laboratories accreditation requirements, provides the only full service forensic laboratory system in the state. The FSD provides service to all criminal justice agencies from its five forensic laboratories located in Clackamas (Portland Metro), Springfield, Central Point, Bend, and Pendleton. There are 138 authorized positions in the division.
Proposed Project:
To reduce the casework and database sample backlogs and to enhance our capacity, OSP FSD is proposing the use of grant funds for personnel; overtime; training; equipment; scanning of case files; an external FBI Quality Assurance Standards audit (casework and databasing); additional copies of existing software; software to transition from paper case files to electronic case files; and annual licensing fees for LIMS.
Products and Deliverables:
Use of grant funds as described above, will result in an expansion of our capacity and a reduction in our backlog.
