Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $1,200,000)
Skokomish Indian Tribe is a federally recognized tribe located in Mason County, WA. With this funding, Skokomish Modular Police Department Program will complete the construction of a 1) new safe and secure public safety building to 2) improve justice and public safety programs and 3) strengthen partnerships to better serve the Skokomish Community. Skokomish is requesting $1.2 million for a year-year project to begin October 1, 2021 to construct a new permanent modular police department building. This project will prepare and execute plans and specifications for a 5000 square foot permanent modular Police Department. This includes site development, overseeing contract for installation, and completing inspections through final close-out. Poor conditions of the current Police Department and the need for physical space for programmatic expansion or changes will be drastically improved through this funding. This funding will support the construction of a Public Safety department that is secure, safe and cost effective. As a result, this will lead to an expansion of public safety and Tribal court services. This extra space will be utilized for programs supported by SPD and Tribal Court; such as Domestic Violence program, SORNA, & Code Enforcement. It will also provide more room for Tribal Court programming. This will include space to hold committee meetings and other interdepartmental meetings and host onsite interagency meetings, and utilized as a Command Post for collaborative operations, and conduct onsite trainings to increase collaboration between partner agencies and SPD.
