Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $1,186,249)
The Nooksack Tribe originally applied to renovate the building known as the former Nooksack River Casino in Deming, WA, into a justice center that will accommodate enough space to combine the police department, court system, and tribal attorney's under one roof. The renovation was to be limited to interior renovations including structural, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
The Change of Scope we are requesting would involve the following action:
The Nooksack Indian Tribe proposes to use the DOJ award funds to renovate the building attached to the old Nooksack River Casino, commonly referred to as "The Eddy". The proposed renovated standalone structure will be used solely for the tribe's police station as the building has only enough space for this use.
A letter is attached with details regarding specific use of the funds in the renovation. There are numerous benefits -legal and financial- for the tribe's law enforcement offices to be located on the reservation property. The Nooksack Reservation is only two acres and this property sits within that area.
