Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $871,091)

The Probation Office has a list of 187 probationers, with only 91 who are actively adhering to the requirements of their probation. The majority of other probationers (51% or 96 clients) are on warrant status due to failure to comply with the terms of their release. Currently there is not enough manpower to cover residential checks for all of the probationers across the entire 1.4 million acre reservation. When surveyed, participants were asked if they thought the Probation Office had enough employees to provide service to tribal members. Fifty-nine percent (59%) of the respondents said no, there were not enough Probation employees to serve the reservation. Increasing the staffing by two more employees will create an office of five—one to cover each of the four tribal districts and one administrative assistant to stay within the office who can ensure the Probation Office is always open for walk-in appointments.
