Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $314,000)

The City of Largo, Florida is requesting $314,000 in funding to purchase 157 body-worn cameras for the Largo Police Department. Through the implementation of the body-worn camera program, the Largo Police Department seeks to accomplish a number of objectives including increasing trust in policing in the community, reducing complaints against officers, increasining civility of citizens involved in law enforcement interactions, and streamlining and enhancing evidence collection.

To ensure the long-term success of the program and demonstrate the city's strong commitment, more than $1.5 million in general fund revenue will be earmarked for ongoing implementation and program expenses including information technology upgrades and maintenance as well as the hiring of personnel dedicated solely to the body-worn camera program.
