Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $120,000)

The Stafford Township Police Department Body Worn Camera Program

The Stafford Township Police Department is seeking grant funding to implement a new Body Worn Camera (BWC) program in its department. We are seeking funding for 60 BWCs at $2,000.00 per camera for a total of $120,000 of federal funding. Currently, the Stafford Township Police Department does not have any BWCs active in the department. The purchase of BWCs and the implementation process is ongoing.

In April 2021, the Township of Stafford entered into a 5-year agreement with Body Worn to purchase and implement BWCs at a cost of $480,000 (Attached). This agreement was the result of legislation, effective June, 1, 2021, in New Jersey requiring all police departments in the state to have a BWC program. Furthermore, New Jersey is supplementing the costs of BWCs at a cost of $2,038.00 per BWC, totaling $122,280 for our department. However, this reimbursement leaves a deficit for the department’s BWC program of $357,720.
