Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $266,963)

Maine School Administrative District 30 (MSAD 30), which serves 191 K-8th grade students in the town of Lee in rural Penobscot County, ME, will use funds to deliver two evidence-based anti-violence training programs—the Sandy Hook Promise “Know the Signs” program and Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA)—to their staff members, administrators, and students. Project activities will fall under the focus area of training to prevent school violence, including training for local law enforcement officers, school personnel, and students. Deliverables will include implementation of training and identification of age-appropriate resources that can be used to help students who are struggling with mental health crises. The program’s objective is to increase school safety using evidence-based solutions to prevent violence against schools, staff, and students and ensure a positive school climate.
