Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2021, $2,000,000)

The Cherokee Nation will hire four or more full-time, legally trained, and bar-certified attorneys to support the investigation, coordination, and prosecution of criminal cases in tribal and federal court as a result of the McGirt v. Oklahoma decision. The invited grantee will negotiate and implement a Memorandum of Agreement with the USAO to cross designate the tribal prosecutors as SAUSAs and to assess and coordinate decisions on the prosecution of cases under federal laws such as the Major Crimes Act, including a review of pending cases, and develop a system to address future cases.
