Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $28,024)

The City of Benton Harbor is proposing to use these funds to update the in-car camera recording system.  The current system is out of date and dilapidated.  The new system is integrated with the current body cams that are worn as well as hard wired and installed as part of the vehicle.  The new cameras will also have gun shot detection and license plate reader abilities to help not only with recording public interactions but also with investigations of violent crime.

The City of Benton Harbor will also be purchasing Simunitions Equipment.  This equipment allows for officers to train to violent events with realistic training by using marking/FX cartridges.  This will increase officer safety allowing for training to identify and respond to ambush situations as well as active violent aggressive situations that have become more prevalent.  This training kit will be available also along with our certified instructors to other agencies for training as well.
