Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $150,000)

The Wisconsin Department of Justice (WIDOJ), the State Administering Agency (SAA) and fiscal agent, requests $150,000 for a 12-month project to reimburse law enforcement agencies in the state for the immediate emergency response and subsequent investigation and prosecution of the Waukesha parade attack that occurred on November 21, 2021.

Wisconsin experienced a tragic and devastating event when a driver drove through crowds of attendees and marchers in the Waukesha Christmas parade, resulting in the deaths of six people and serious injuries to more than sixty others. The driver is currently facing dozens of state charges, including six counts of first-degree intentional homicide.

Funds will be utilized to reimburse agencies that have experienced a significant financial impact from the parade tragedy and the subsequent interventions that have been necessary to cope with this event.  As the SAA, WIDOJ will administer the reimbursement process, selection of agencies, collection of required data from the agencies, and will provide overall grant monitoring and oversight.
