Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $76,000)

The Office of the City Attorney serves the citizens of the City of Lansing through its representation of the City and its elected officials, offices, boards and commissions in court and in administrative and quasi-judicial proceedings.  It provides exemplary legal services and advice by addressing the legal challenges facing the City of Lansing in a professional, ethical and cost effective manner.
The grant dollars would be used within the Office of the City Attorney to improve the operational effectiveness of the office and expand prosecutorial resources.  Funding would support the Office's legal assistant position, which is responsible for adequately preparing district court dockets and providing assistance to victims of crime, including the preparation and delivery of crime victim rights letters.  Interns also assist with both of these processes and the grant would fund their work.  Grant dollars would also go towards the efforts of the Assistant City Attorneys in prosecuting driving while intoxicated offenses, including both alcohol and drug intoxication, which require significantly more time and effort than other cases.
