Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $367,000)

Marylanders to Prevent Gun Violence seeks funding to lead and staff the Coalition, and to provide sufficient resources to members of the Maryland Violence Prevention Coalition (MVPC).

MVPC was established to address the pressing need to reduce violence and support Community-based Organizations (CBO) implementing Violence Intervention and Prevention Programs (VIPP) in this state. The MVPC is composed of community members including social service providers, healthcare practitioners, survivors of gun violence, policy advocates, legislators, violence prevention practitioners and researchers. We embrace the joint mission of reducing violence and improving living conditions in underserved Maryland communities, the neighborhoods most often disproportionately impacted by violence. Using a community-led approach, we seek to empower the voices often neglected in conversations about violence.
