Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $225,000)
The City of Pelham needs funding to upgrade our antiquated VHF radio communications system to a P25 (APCO Project 25) Interoperable communications system to serve the needs of Public Safety and other First Responders. This will be accomplished by utilizing an existing P25 regional network currently covers the City of Pelham, as well as Mitchell County, Camilla, Albany, Dougherty County, Leesburg, Lee County, Thomasville, Thomas County, Bainbridge, Decatur County, Grady County and Cairo. The system will serve the City of Pelham Police and Fire Departments. The current VHF communication system employed by the City of Pelham is riddled with issues that routinely put first responders, citizens and visitors at risk. Located in a rural, economically challenged area of the State of Georgia, our town simply doesn't have access to funding for such a critical communications upgrade without federal assistance.
