Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $122,000)
In 2020, 1.56% of Denver’s landmass (excluding Denver International Airport) accounted for 26.1% of homicides and aggravated assaults. To address this, the Denver police department would like to use a method supported by the academic literature to co-produce public safety with community groups and faith-based organizations. The program would involve pairing two officers with a member of a community or faith-based organization to perform foot patrols in locations where the data indicates chronic violent crime. By involving community members in improving the neighborhoods where they live, and work will improve community-police relations and reduce crime in the identified neighborhoods. The goals of this project are to reduce crime on Colfax near Civic Center Park and in the Precinct 223 East Colfax neighborhood and create better partnerships between DPD and residents.
