Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $235,000)

The Nevada Department of Public Safety, Nevada Parole and Probation (NPP) will utilize this funding to provide on-site services and community resources to first-time probationers for successful completion of their supervision and to help them reintegrate into society. The goal is to reduce recidivism and crime in the community, as well as promote personal accountability and encourage positive behavioral changes.

This project will encourage positive police-community relations. Funding will include overtime pay for NPP sworn staff to conduct compliance checks and community policing to participants.

 

Designated specialists will assist with follow-ups for the identified participants and assist in data collection. Counseling agencies will work onsite to offer immediate services to those identified by the Specialists during the presentencing phase. NPP will coordinate with other community partners and agencies such as Nevada Job Connect, Department of Health & Human Services, and Catholic Charities to name a few. A full range of supportive services will be available to the target population in the Las Vegas area and surrounding rural communities. The program is called “From Supervision to Success.”
