Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $90,000)

Gateway Academy provides an alternative learning environment for all Forsyth County students. This school has a high concentration of students (over 50%) who have been removed from the public high schools and middle schools throughout the county via a tribunal process for drug or alcohol-related offenses. Since 2018, the program has continued to develop and demand for services has increased. This funding will be used to add two additional certified drug counselors to be on-site, offering full-time alcohol and drug counseling support.

Early intervention and prevention are key in the battle to remove addiction from our community. Through the grant award, the school district will be able to broaden its ability to provide early intervention in adolescent substance abuse. This program includes support groups, individual sessions, peer-driven social activities, and family support.
