The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Animal Cruelty Unit is a small unit comprised of one investigator whose primary purpose is to investigate and arrests suspects for crimes committed on animals. Additionally personnel assigned to this unit are a sergeant and a lieutenant. Through grant funding, the BCSO Animal Cruelty Unit will be able to purchase a vehicle designated for stray, neglected, or animals seized through an investigation. The grant will also assist by purchasing essential items needed such as thermometers, animal feed, cages, and kennels. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office plans to utilize funding to maximize the effectiveness of the unit and increase arrests for animal cruelty suspects, but also provide education to the community to help make Bexar County a safer place for all animals.
