ABSTRACT

The Delaware Criminal Justice Council, in conjunction with the Delaware Department of Justice (DDOJ) and the Office of Defense Services (ODS) seeks to implement the FY2022 John R. Justice Loan Repayment Program in the State of Delaware.  The CJC is the state administrative agency (SAA) for Delaware and is the fiscal agent for this program.

The goal is to assist the State of Delaware in retaining qualified state prosecutors and public defenders by assisting them with repayment and relieving the financial burden of law school loans. All full-time prosecutors employed by the DDOJ and all full-time attorneys employed by the ODS whose annual salary is less than $110,000 are eligible.

A CJC subcommittee reviews applications and determines the awards. Appropriate documents must accompany each application.  Proof of income, expenses, debt obligations and loan data are expected by all applicants in order to be eligible to receive financial support through this Program.

Awards are based on the following criteria:  1) The applicant’s ability or inability to repay; 2) The amount of the applicant’s educational debt;  3) Whether the applicant has potential repayment assistance from other sources; 4) Whether and how many dependents the applicant has, and 5) The applicant’s meritorious service.
