Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $2,265,401)
The California Department of Justice (DOJ) Bureau of Forensic Services (BFS) is requesting funding in the amount of $2,265,401 including the secondary amount, for DNA capacity enhancement and backlog reduction. All work is to be accomplished within the two-year award period.
Our goals for this grant are to increase the capacity and efficiency of our forensic biology and DNA programs by reducing our case backlogs and reducing the overall turnaround time for handling, screening, analyzing, and reviewing cases.
BFS proposes to achieve these goals by:
• Funding overtime for forensic biology and DNA casework analysis
• Providing training for forensic biology, DNA casework, and DNA databank analysts
• Purchasing equipment for forensic biology, DNA casework, and DNA databank analysis
Using grant funding for overtime, BFS expects to be able to complete at least 300 additional Biology/DNA cases by the end of the grant period.
