Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2022, $1,478,272)

The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, under CTAS Purpose Area #4, is proposing a remodel of their police station to improve efficiency and safety of Law Enforcement Professionals.  Since 2005, the Fond du Lac Law Enforcement Division has been in the same building, originally designed for a force of eight (8) officers and two (2) admin staff.  Today, Fond du Lac Law Enforcement has the capacity to support 19 officers and 3.5 admin staff, over double the amount of people originally planned to occupy this space.  A remodel of the existing police station will increase private office space, expand evidence holding capacity, and create opportunities for social distancing.  These improvements will increase the functionality of Fond du Lac’s police station.  A functional space will lead to efficient and high-quality investigations and reports, increased confidentiality and data security and opportunities to better support the justice for crime victims.  To accomplish these goals, the Fond du Lac Band will contract with an Architect/Engineering firm, based off of a competitive bidding process, to complete final designs.  Once the design is complete, a similar competitive bidding process will take place to select the contractor that will be responsible for executing the remodel.  The Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa is located in NE Minnesota, 20 miles south of Duluth near the city of Cloquet.  The Fond du Lac Band has 4000+ Band Members with roughly half of the membership living within or near the reservation boundaries.
