The State of Tennessee proposes to use FFY 2022 Coverdell Formula funds to support the following programs: State of Problems The Forensic Chemistry unit of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) Crime Laboratories relies on state-of-the-art instrumentation to analyze evidence submitted by law enforcement agencies across the state of Tennessee. the Liquid Chromatograph/Mass Spectrometer (LC/MS) instrumentation is routinely used for death investigations, cases with residual or trace amounts of controlled substances, differentiate between psilocybin and psilocyn, and to detect Fentanyl and its analogues when they are present at very low amounts. Another problem is easing the administrative burden on the state medicolegal death investigators, as well as improving the tools available to the county medical examiners, the OSCME would like to purchase fifty (50) surface tablets. How Award will be utilized Purchases of Liquid Chromatograph /Mass Spectrometers (LC/MS) for Tennessee Bureau of Investigation along with training needed for staff.Purchases of Tablets which will enable county medical examiners and medical investigators to produce quality death investigation documentation. One to two sentences describing the outcome. The outcome would be to reduce the backlog work at the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, along with reducing administrative burden to the county medical examiners and decreased financial burden to the forensic centers for cost of increased toxicology testing.
