Category 2: Enhancement

Justice Court, Las Vegas Township
Misdemeanor Treatment Court program began operations in September of 2020
Current funding for the MTC program limits us to only 16 to 20 participants per year yet on average 71 new possible participants are referred to the MTC program monthly.
Justice Court, Las Vegas Township Misdemeanor Treatment Court (MTC) seeks funding in the amount of $750,000 to enhance services by providing approximately 80 participants with wrap around care services to include inpatient treatment (with medication assisted treatment if needed), sober/transitional housing to have a better chance at success in the program and recovery. Funding would also assist in reclaiming government issued ID for all participants. This enhancement funding primarily focuses on NADCP Adult Drug Court Best Practice Standards (BP) #5 by enhancing substance abuse treatment options available to participants, as currently, funding presents the greatest limitation in allowing participants to enter outpatient, inpatient treatment when they are unsuccessful at outpatient treatment due to continued relapse. An additional focus for this enhancement is for BP #2 and #7 by providing homeless participants with sober and safe housing along with appropriate wrap-around services to allow for a greater chance at completing the program and long-term recovery. MTC has seen an explosion in numbers of people being referred into its program due to the rapid influx of substance abuse related crime in the Las Vegas area. Current funding is minimal and focuses on operating costs with no funding for substance abuse treatment and wrap around services. Of current referrals to MTC, the majority lack sober and safe housing. Without these services, participants needing care and homeless participants face a higher rate of failure in program. Acceptance of these new participants would begin immediately upon funding. There is no discrimination because of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, sexual identity, physical or mental disability, religion or socioeconomic status in the selection of eligible participants, however, referrals must be 18 years of age or older. Referrals with a violent criminal history/underlying offense, presenting with significant mental health pathology are not accepted into the program. Program is at least 9 months in length, and is structured to address the individualized needs of the participants. Community Court will collect data through Odyssey case management system and Nevada Drug Court Case Management (DCCM) System.
MTC is in a designated Qualified Opportunity Zones (QOZs) and low-income community.
