Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $3,088,478)
The Department of Public Safety, Office of Criminal Justice Assistance (OCJA) is the State Administrative Agency (SAA) for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG). OCJA is designated to receive and administer the BJA FY 2022 - 2023 Byrne State Crisis Intervention Program Formula Grant. Funding will provide resources statewide for state agencies, local agencies and communities to address gun violence and those in mental health crisis to provide added protection to keep Nevada’s citizens and tourists safe. Nevada ranks #51 for both adults and youth measures, experiencing a higher prevalence of mental illness and lower rates of access to care. With mental health as a catalyst for some gun violence, resources may be used to increase services for those at risk and in crisis. This application is merely a preliminary proposal, because the SCIP plan, priorities, budget, and subawards must be developed and approved in coordination with the State Crisis Intervention Advisory Board/Working Group yet to be established. In-depth and long-range planning is required to create an effective plan to address the criteria of the new solicitation and would benefit from input by Nevada’s newly elected Governor Joe Lombardo, who will take office January 2, 2023.
