The Cochise County Detention Facility is approximately 40 years old. Through those years, the jail has deteriorated and needs major repairs to keep the facility operational and functioning safely for not only Cochise County detention staff but the inmates who are currently being housed at the facility. Over the last 3 years, the number of inmates for the detention center has increased due to an influx of illegal migrants entering the country through Cochise County. The facility is at or passed its maximum capacity which causes major safety concerns and puts a burden on the facilitie's infrastructure. This funding will assist with the construction of a new detention facility for Cochise County that will increase the number of inmates which are able to be housed in Cochise County as well as provide a safer environment for staff and inmates.
