Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $731,000)

The Glendale Police Department (GPD) proposes to implement a robust street Homeless Outreach Program. The purpose is to provide directed street outreach to the unsheltered clients and build rapport with the unsheltered community within the City of Glendale, California. Project activities include engaging with and connecting the clients to the Glendale Continuum of Care (COC) service providers for wraparound services and housing placement. This program would allow for extended directed street outreach services into the early morning, evening, and weekend hours with the intention of reaching the broadest population of unsheltered clients. As part of this program, the GPD would like to purchase a community van to transport and disseminate donations and provide additional outreach. Expected outcomes include contacting and engaging with unsheltered individuals and offer outreach resources during off hours to increase overall engagement, improve coverage services geared toward unsheltered individuals and families, work with available services through the COC to establish some type of shelter to the unsheltered, and to provide education and resources for homeless prevention.
