Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $86,000)

Funds will be used to purchase a FARO 3D HW LS Focus S 150 system, all inclusive with software, hardware, warranty, safe storage and training.  A FARO 3D scanner will improve Pueblo Police Department’s overall efficiency, accuracy, and transparency of investigations during its documentation and processing of crime scenes, especially crime scene reconstruction capabilities (i.e., bloodstain pattern analyses, shooting incident reconstruction, and vehicle collision reconstruction). This technology will enable PPD to collect specific, accurate, and detailed measurements from crime scenes and fatal crash sites that can be used to aide in successful prosecutions and/or exonerations. At the same time, the need to use manual techniques and diagraming equipment will be minimized and the time spent for the collection of such data will be reduced.  The purchase of this equipment will have immediate impact for the community with its internal use in the city’s police and fire departments.
