Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $84,000)

The Scott County Sheriff's Office proposes the purchase of critical equipment that will enhance the emergency response capabilities of public safety personnel during natural disasters and other emergency situations and will ultimately improve the safety and well-being of the community. The proposed equipment includes a tracked utility terrain vehicle (UTV) with a rescue litter platform, a breaching tool, portable generators, and water pumps.

The purchase of a tracked UTV with a rescue litter platform, a breaching tool, portable generators, and water pumps will significantly enhance the emergency response capabilities of the Scott County Sheriff's Office resulting in increased safety and security for the residents and visitors of Scott County, Minnesota and surrounding communities during times of emergency or disaster.

The tracked UTV with rescue litter will enable first responders to rescue and transport injured individuals from remote or difficult-to-reach areas.  The breaching tool will aid in gaining access to buildings and structures that may be blocked or barricaded for rescue or recovery purposes.  Portable generators can provide temporary power to essential appliances and equipment during a power outage.  Portable water pumps can help remove excess water from homes, basements, and other structures affected by disaster and help residents to stabilize their situation until further relief is available.

The proposed equipment will be utilized in Scott County, Minnesota, and surrounding communities who may be affected by natural disasters or other emergencies. The intended beneficiaries of this proposal are the residents of Scott County, Minnesota, and surrounding communities who will receive efficient and effective relief and rescue services during emergencies.  Activities will involve training and support for the law enforcement and emergency management personnel who will be using the proposed equipment, ensuring safe and effective rescue operations.  Additionally, the equipment will be made available to neighboring communities in the event of an emergency to provide mutual aid and assistance.

Overall, the purchase of a tracked UTV with rescue litter, breaching tool, portable generators, and water pumps will significantly enhance the Scott County Sheriff's Office ability to respond to natural disasters and other emergencies, and provide critical support and aid to those affected.
