Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $145,000)

The NLVPD Officer Wellness will be instituted to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of NLVPD personnel. The class promotes wellbeing through diet, exercise, and mental health awareness and is a part of the Peace Officer Standards and Training mandate that officers must complete 12 hours of annual training on Officer Wellbeing. This program will provide officers access to exercise equipment to promote physical health as well as quiet rooms to help manage stress, promoting good mental health. Currently, police officers stationed at the main headquarters located in North Las Vegas City Hall have access to an employee gym. The NLVPD would like to extend this privilege to other officers through the installation of exercise equipment in the North Las Vegas Police Department's South Area Command, Northwest Area Command, and the North Central Area Command. Quiet rooms provide officers with a quiet place to decompress, decreasing sensory stimuli. Through this program, exercise equipment and quiet rooms will be installed at various locations.
