Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $400,000)

Twenty-two Boulder City Police Patrol vehicles, with model years of 1999 through 2015, need to be replaced in the coming years as they experience regular mechanical and functional issues, are no longer under warranty, and their parts are becoming more costly. The Fleet Management Team determined that replacement is the safest and most fiscally responsible option. The City would like to purchase electric vehicles for their cost-effectiveness and built-in capabilities that compliment road patrol.

Our objective is to make sure all available officers are on the roads and visible to our residents (and the thousands of visitors to our historic community, built alongside the Hoover Dam).   The requested funds would be used to purchase new, electric vehicles, which require less maintenance than fossil-fuel burning cars and keep more officers on patrol, not broken down at the side of the road. The electric cars can handle mobile data terminals (MDTs) without having to run constantly, burning fuel. On-board cameras are installed on the vehicles, which can be connected to the MDTs, resulting in a lower cost to equip the vehicle for patrol.
