Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $210,000)

The Village of Amityville proposes to implement the Village of Amityville Police Vehicles Request. The purpose is to purchase three new police cars, fully outfitted, with computers, lettering, emergency lights, siren, radios, and gun racks with a total cost of $70,000 each. Project activities are simple. Purchase these police cars and replace vehicles in our fleet that are at the end of their useful life.

The expected outcome is that the Amityville Village Police Department will continue to provide its community with outstanding service. The Police Department is very pro-active within the Village, not only as police enforcement officers, but also as community participants whereby police officers are actively involved within the Village, its schools and community organizations.

The service area is primarily the Village of Amityville but through joint cooperative efforts the Amityville Village Police Department helps serve its neighboring communities of East Massapequa, North Amityville, Copiague and Amity Harbor. The Village of Amityville and the surrounding neighborhoods are very diverse racially, culturally, and economically.

The intended beneficiary is the Amityville Village Police Department by replacing three patrol cars that are at end of life to accomplish its mission of serving the community. Some of the stated traditional police goals and objectives for 2023 include reducing motor vehicle accidents by 5% by increasing traffic enforcement initiatives in areas where most accidents occur, continue our excellent service to by responding to citizen complaints and calls for service and crime prevention.

Subrecipient activities include helping the Amityville Village Police Department continue with its other objectives; helping the less fortunate including the ever-growing homeless population and community members who suffer with mental illness. The School Resource Officer presence in the Amityville School District where we provide mentorship programs to students. The face-to-face interactions with business owners, business employees, community stake holders and religious institutions. The involvement in community events such as, Amityville Little league Parade, Amityville Memorial High School Homecoming Parade, Ragamuffin Parade, Food Drives, Coffee with a Cop Program, Cookies with a Cop Program, Information Sharing Program with the senior citizens and events at the local library.
