Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $950,000)

The City of Elkins Police Department proposes to implement law enforcement technology upgrades. The purpose is to enhance public safety and protect life and property in the City of Elkins. Project activities include installing a street camera system with advanced license plate reader technology, a city-wide video management network to mesh technology functions for public safety, installation of in-vehicle camera systems with license plate reader technology, upgraded radar systems in police department vehicles, and enhanced communication systems that include patrol vehicle location and in-vehicle CAD system. Expected outcomes are increased public safety through the ability to quickly locate vehicles and persons suspected of criminal activity, increased case closure rates, increased resolution of traffic crash investigations, enhanced monitoring of roadway conditions, and increased officer safety. All residents and visitors of the City of Elkins, as well as the officers of the Elkins Police Department, are the expected beneficiaries of the project.
