The Verdugo Regional Crime Laboratory (VRCL) performs DNA testing for over 30 local, regional, and federal law enforcement agencies. To address increase demands in DNA testing and the existing DNA backlog, funds will be used for salaries and benefits of a full time DNA analyst to aid in DNA testing/report writing, purchase equipment and service contracts, and train personnel. The VRCL Forensic Biology Unit will be able to increase sample capacity to reduce the number of backlogged cases by addressing bottle necks.
