Award Information
Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $24,823)
The Nevada Department of Public Safety’s Office of Criminal Justice Assistance (DPS-OCJA) will use the PREA Reallocation funds to make a sub-award to the Nevada Department of Corrections (DOC) to maintain compliance with PREA. Education, information, communication are all integral elements to establishing a safe, effective PREA compliant program. The DOC is requested funds to facilitate statewide PREA training to ensure all PREA investigations are thorough and complete. In addition to meeting specific standards to include PREA investigations, the agency must also provide coordinated efforts amongst facility leadership, supervisory staff, and the PREA Compliance Manager to include recommendations for outreach such as mental health services when such a need has been identified. The deliverables for this training will benefit not only agency staff at all levels but increase the service provision to the offenders in our care. Funds will also be used for the PREA coordinator/designee along with two designated staff to develop and instruct training in responding to incidents of sexual abuse, a coordinated response plan, and improving the fidelity of thorough investigations.
