Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $10,684)

The North Royalton Police Department BWC Expansion and Re-Supply Project is intended to be an
expansion and resupply of the department’s existing BWC program. The primary activities covered by
their BWC program are documenting citizen and violator interactions such as traffic stops, calls for
service, crimes in progress, and investigative functions. They expect that the outcome will be the
continued growth of trust between them and the public, as well as increased transparency. Since the
implementation of their BWC program in the spring of 2020, there has not been a sustained citizen
complaint resulting in discipline against any of their officers. The North Royalton Police Department
is looking to expand its inventory of Body Worn by Utility BWCs by seven BWCs to cover new hires
and provide a few spares in the event of failure/breakdown of the units. The units will be worn
exclusively by sworn officers of the North Royalton Police Department. The service area for these
units will be the City of North Royalton, Ohio, and any area/activity in surrounding areas to which
their officers are called. The 31,300 citizens of the City of North Royalton, Ohio, will be the
beneficiaries of this program, as well as their guests, visitors to the city, and those employed within the
city.
