Description of original award (Fiscal Year 2023, $34,000)

The Saint Helena Police Department (SHPD) is requesting funds to expand its BWC program under
Category 1: Site-based awards to law enforcement agencies. The funding will assist in the purchase of
17 BWCs for our full-time officers and reserves. Currently, we have 13 BWCs actively worn by our 12
sworn officers, but these cameras are outdated and at the end of their useful life. In December 2023,
our 5-year contract with Motorola will end, and our existing cameras will no longer be functional. We
currently do not have the budget available to fully fund the purchase of new cameras for FY23–24 or
FY24–25. SHPD is requesting 17 new BWCs, which will not only enable the existing successful
program to continue but also expand the program to allow our reserve officers, who currently do not
have cameras, to record their interactions.
