ECPO Intellectual Property Unit: We propose a continuation of a successful enforcement program focused on counterfeit goods and product piracy, supported since 2015 via FY14, FY16 and FY20 IPEP grants

The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office (ECPO) proposes to further utilize the Intellectual Property Taskforce and ECPO Financial Crimes Unit case tracking system. The purpose is to take a multijurisdictional approach to investigating and prosecuting violations of state laws in relation to IP crimes in Essex County. Project activities include incorporating additional agencies and municipalities within the taskforce, education regarding intellectual property for law enforcement and the public, and increasing the amount of felony prosecutions in Superior Court. Expected outcomes include growing the task force; eliminating funding sources for gang, organized crime and terrorism related activities; and doubling the number of arrests and felony prosecutions. The residents of and entities located or doing business in the County of Essex are the intended recipients.
